Terms of Service
Last updated: July 12, 2026
These terms govern your use of Beat the Book, a free-to-play sports prediction competition operated by Carter Smith (“we”, “us”) from Ontario, Canada. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms.
1. What Beat the Book is
Beat the Book is a free-to-play game of skill. Players make weekly predictions against real sportsbook-style odds and compete on season-long leaderboards. It is a prediction competition, not a sportsbook or gambling service.
You never deposit, wager, or withdraw money through this platform. No purchase is necessary to play or to win. Odds shown are used only to score predictions.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and use the site only where free-to-play prize competitions are lawful. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you; where participation or a prize would be unlawful in your location, you may not participate and prizes are void.
One account per person. Creating multiple accounts, or entering on behalf of others, is grounds for disqualification.
3. Your account
Accounts are created through Google sign-in. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. Choose a username that isn't offensive, misleading, or impersonating; we may reclaim or reset usernames that violate this.
You may request deletion of your account at any time by emailing support@beathebook.com.
4. How the game works
Competition mechanics — weekly official picks, the units leaderboard, eligible markets, the odds rule, pushes, and no-pick losses — are described on the Prizes & Rules and Official Contest Rules pages, which form part of these terms. Odds and lines are snapshotted when you make a pick and used to grade it.
5. Fair play and acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use bots, scripts, or automation to place picks or scrape the site;
- exploit bugs, odds errors, or settlement errors rather than reporting them;
- create duplicate or fraudulent accounts, or manipulate leaderboards;
- harass other players or post unlawful content.
We may suspend or disqualify accounts, void affected picks, and withhold prizes where we reasonably believe these terms were broken.
6. Prizes
Prizes, eligibility, and how winners are determined and contacted are set out in the Official Contest Rules. Prizes are awarded at our discretion in accordance with those rules, are non-transferable, and have no cash-equivalent alternative unless we state otherwise. You are responsible for any taxes on a prize you receive.
7. Settlement and disputes
Picks settle on the odds we posted at pick time and on official league results. We may correct scores and re-settle if we posted an error. You can raise a settlement dispute within 48 hours of grading by emailing support@beathebook.com. Our determination of results and standings is final.
8. Changes and availability
We may change the game, these terms, or the rules, and may add, pause, or end competitions. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date. We provide the site “as is” and don't guarantee it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost picks, downtime, or third-party service failures (for example the odds feed, email, or hosting). Since no money is deposited or wagered, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the site is limited to the value of any prize you were entitled to under the Official Contest Rules.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be subject to the courts located in Ontario, Canada.
