Prizes & Rules

Beat the Book is a free-to-play sports prediction competition. You never deposit money or place real wagers on this platform — picks are scored against real sportsbook odds for competition only.

The main competition

Make one official pick per week. Your season record (wins–losses) ranks you on the main leaderboard. Nobody is eliminated — you can play every week until the season ends.

  • Picks on a game lock when that game kicks off.
  • The weekly pick window closes at the Sunday night kickoff. If the week closes and you haven't made your official pick, that week counts as a loss.
  • A push (tie against the line) doesn't count as a win or a loss and your streak carries on — but a push on your official pick means you owe two official picks the following week.
  • If multiple players tie for first at the end of the season, the prize pool is split evenly between them.

The units leaderboard

Want more action? Make as many extra picks as you like. Each one is scored as a simulated 1-unit play paid out by its odds, and the units leaderboard ranks players by net units. Extra picks never affect your main-board record.

Eligible picks

Any single-market pick that settles within the competition week: moneyline, spread, game total, player props, and team props.

Not allowed: parlays, same-game parlays, futures, season-long markets, or anything that settles across multiple games or weeks. The simple rule: if it's a single pick that settles this week, it's eligible.

The odds rule

Picks must be priced at -150 or longer. That means -150, -140, -110, +100, +250, +800 are all fair game — but heavy favorites like -160, -200, or -350 are not. Long shots are uncapped. Odds are locked in at the moment you make your pick.

You can display odds in American (default) or decimal format from your profile settings.

Prizes

  • Each competition has a $1,000 guaranteed prize pool for the best record on the main leaderboard. Ties split the pool.
  • Benchwarmer Bonus:make your official pick every week of the season — any record — and you're entered into a random draw for a $50 prize.
  • Winners are contacted directly after the season ends. No payments are made through the site itself.

Fair play

  • One account per player. Duplicate accounts are disqualified.
  • Picks settle on the platform's posted odds and official league results. Settlement disputes can be raised within 48 hours of grading.
  • Beat the Book may void picks affected by obvious odds errors or postponed games (voided picks score zero).
