Official Contest Rules

Last updated: July 12, 2026

These Official Contest Rules govern the free-to-play prize competitions on Beat the Book, operated by Carter Smith from Ontario, Canada. No purchase is necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not improve your chances of winning.

1. No purchase necessary

Beat the Book is free to play. You never pay to enter, deposit money, or place a wager, and there is nothing you can buy that affects your odds of winning. Prizes are awarded based on skill — your prediction record over the season.

2. Eligibility

Open to individuals who are at least 18 years old and who participate from a location where free-to-play skill-based prize competitions are lawful. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. You are responsible for knowing and following the laws that apply to you.

Our employees, contractors, and their immediate households, and anyone involved in administering the competition, are not eligible to win prizes.

3. How to enter and play

Create a free account and make your weekly official pick within each competition. The full mechanics — one official pick per week, the weekly deadline, pushes, no-pick losses, the odds rule, and the units leaderboard — are described on the Prizes & Rules page and are incorporated into these rules.

4. How winners are determined

The main prize is determined by the best win-loss record on the main leaderboard at the end of the competition. If players are tied on record at the end of the season, the guaranteed prize pool is split evenly among those tied for first.

The Benchwarmer Bonus is a random draw: players who make their official pick in every week of the season are entered, regardless of record, and one entrant is selected at random.

Skill — not chance — determines the main prize. Results are based on the odds we posted at pick time and official league outcomes.

5. Prizes

Each active competition advertises a guaranteed prize pool (for example, a $1,000 guaranteed prize pool) and, where offered, a Benchwarmer Bonus. Prize amounts and any sponsor additions are shown on the competition. Prizes are non-transferable and have no cash alternative unless we state otherwise. We may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if necessary.

6. Winner notification and claiming a prize

Winners are contacted after the competition ends using the email associated with their account. No payment is made through the site itself; we arrange prize delivery directly with each winner. You may need to confirm your identity and eligibility and, where required, complete a declaration or tax form before a prize is awarded.

If a winner can't be reached, doesn't respond within a reasonable time, or is found ineligible or in breach of the rules, the prize may be forfeited and awarded to the next eligible player.

7. Disqualification

We may disqualify any player who breaks the Terms of Service, uses multiple or fraudulent accounts, automates play, exploits errors, or otherwise undermines the fairness or integrity of the competition.

8. Odds, settlement, and disputes

Picks settle on the odds posted at pick time and on official league results. We may void picks affected by obvious odds errors or postponed or cancelled games, and we may correct scores and re-settle. Settlement disputes can be raised within 48 hours of grading by emailing support@beathebook.com. Our decisions on results, standings, and prizes are final.

9. Changes

We may modify, suspend, or end a competition or these rules — including for reasons beyond our control, such as a disrupted sports season. If we do, we'll post the change here, and we'll honour the guaranteed prize pool for any competition that runs to completion.

10. Sponsor

These competitions are administered by Carter Smith, Ontario, Canada. Questions about a competition or prize: support@beathebook.com.
