Official Contest Rules

Beat the Book is free to play. You never pay to enter, deposit money, or place a wager, and there is nothing you can buy that affects your chances of winning. No consideration of any kind is required to enter or to be eligible for a prize.

Each competition (for example, “NFL 2026”) is a separate contest. Its start date, weekly schedule, and end date are shown on that competition's page, which forms part of these rules. A competition begins when its first week opens for picks and ends when its final week is settled.

Entry deadline: you may join a competition and make your first pick up to the end of its third scheduled week. After that, entry for that competition is closed. All times are determined by our servers, whose clock is final.

Open only to legal residents of Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec) and the fifty United States and the District of Columbia, who at the time of entry are the greater of 18 years of age or the age of majority in their province, territory, or state of residence.

Residents of Quebec are not eligible to enter or win. The competitions are void in Quebec, in Puerto Rico, in U.S. territories and overseas possessions, and anywhere else entry or the award of a prize would be prohibited or restricted by law.

The sponsor, anyone involved in administering a competition, and their immediate family members and household members are not eligible to win. Entry is limited to one account per person; a person may win at most one prize per competition.

Create a free account and make your weekly official pick within each competition. The full mechanics — one official pick per week, the weekly deadline, pushes, no-pick losses, the odds rule, and the units leaderboard — are described on the Prizes & Rules page and are incorporated into these rules by reference.

Entries generated by script, macro, bot, or any automated means, and entries made through multiple or fraudulent accounts, are void.

Grand prize (skill). Awarded to the player with the best win-loss record on the main leaderboard when the competition ends. Records are determined by the odds we posted at the time each pick was made and by official league results.

Ties. If two or more players finish tied on record, the grand prize goes to the tied player with the longest current win streak at the end of the season. If players remain tied, it goes to the one with the most net units. If a tie still remains, the prize goes to the player who joined the competition earliest. Ties are never broken by chance.

Benchwarmer Bonus (random draw). Players who make an official pick in every week of the season are entered into a random draw for one $50 PlayStation Network card, regardless of record. One entrant is selected at random by us from among all eligible entrants after the season ends.

Odds of winning. The grand prize is determined by skill, so no odds of winning apply. For the Benchwarmer Bonus, the odds of being selected depend on the number of eligible entrants — that is, one divided by the number of players who completed every week of the season.

The following prizes are available in each competition that advertises them:

• One (1) grand prize: a PlayStation 5 console. Approximate retail value: CAD $649.99 (approx. USD $499.99).
• One (1) Benchwarmer Bonus: a $50 PlayStation Network card. Approximate retail value: CAD $50 (approx. USD $50).

Total number and approximate retail value of all prizes per competition: two (2) prizes, approximately CAD $699.99. Prizes are not allocated by region. Actual value may vary with retail pricing at the time of award; no difference in value will be paid.

Prizes are awarded “as is,” without warranty of any kind from us (manufacturer warranties, if any, pass to the winner). Prizes are non-transferable, may not be sold or assigned, and have no cash alternative. We reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the advertised prize becomes unavailable. Prizes are shipped only to a valid street address in an eligible jurisdiction; we pay shipping, and we are not responsible for a prize lost, delayed, or damaged in transit once it has been delivered to the carrier.

Before any prize is awarded, the selected winner must correctly answer, unaided and within the time allowed, a mathematical skill-testing question. The question is presented when the winner claims the prize and involves a multi-step arithmetic calculation.

A winner who does not answer correctly within the attempts and time allowed forfeits the prize, and we may select an alternate winner in accordance with these rules. Assistance from another person, a calculator-sharing service, or any automated tool is not permitted.

Selected winners are contacted after the competition ends at the email address associated with their account. No payment is made through the site itself; we arrange prize delivery directly with each winner.

To claim a prize you must, within ten (10) days of our first notice: respond to us, correctly answer the skill-testing question, confirm your identity, age, and residence, provide a shipping address, and sign a declaration and release confirming your eligibility and compliance with these rules and releasing us as described in section 13.

If a selected winner cannot be reached after reasonable effort, does not respond or return the required documents within ten (10) days, fails the skill-testing question, declines the prize, or is found ineligible or in breach of these rules, that person forfeits the prize and we may select an alternate winner — the next-placed eligible player for the grand prize, or a new random draw for the Benchwarmer Bonus. We will make at most three such alternate selections, after which the prize may go unawarded.

Winners are solely responsible for all federal, provincial, state, and local taxes, and for any other costs associated with accepting or using a prize. Depending on where you live and the nature of the contest, the value of a prize may be treated as taxable income — please consult your own tax advisor. We may be required to collect tax information (for example, a completed Form W-9 from a U.S. winner) before releasing a prize, and may report the value of a prize to tax authorities where the law requires it.

Except where prohibited by law, by accepting a prize you consent to our use of your username, province or state, and competition results in connection with announcing and promoting the competition, without further notice, approval, or compensation. We will not publish your legal name, email address, photograph, or street address without your separate written permission.

We may disqualify any player, void any pick, and withhold any prize where we reasonably believe the player has broken the Terms of Service or these rules — including by using multiple or fraudulent accounts, entering on behalf of someone else, automating play, exploiting a bug or a posted odds or settlement error rather than reporting it, colluding with other players, or otherwise undermining the fairness or integrity of a competition.

Any attempt to deliberately damage the site or interfere with the legitimate operation of a competition may be a violation of criminal and civil law; we reserve the right to seek remedies to the fullest extent permitted.

Picks settle on the odds posted at the time the pick was made and on official league results. We may void picks affected by an obvious odds error, and picks on postponed or cancelled games, and we may correct scores and re-settle a game if we posted an error.

Settlement disputes must be raised within 48 hours of grading by emailing support@beathebook.com. Our determinations of results, standings, and prize entitlement are final and binding, subject to your non-waivable rights under applicable law.

By entering, you agree to release the sponsor and anyone involved in administering a competition from any liability for loss, harm, or damage arising out of participation in a competition or acceptance, use, or misuse of a prize, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

We are not responsible for entries or picks that are lost, late, misdirected, or not recorded because of network, hardware, software, or other technical failure; for any error in the odds feed, scores, or third-party services; or for any interruption of a competition. Since no money is deposited or wagered, our total liability to any player in connection with a competition is limited to the approximate retail value of the prize that player was entitled to under these rules.

Nothing in these rules excludes or limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded — including your non-waivable rights under consumer protection legislation.

We may modify, suspend, or end a competition or these rules — including because of a disrupted or cancelled sports season, a technical failure, or any cause beyond our reasonable control. If we change these rules, we will post the change on this page with an updated date. Where a competition runs to completion, we will honour the grand prize advertised for it.

If a competition cannot be completed as planned, we may determine winners from valid entries and results recorded up to the point of termination, or cancel the competition without awarding a prize where no fair determination is possible.

Information you provide is collected and used in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Entering a competition does not sign you up for marketing email; you control competition emails from your profile at any time.

These competitions are in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. PlayStation, PlayStation 5, PS5, and the PlayStation Network are trademarks of Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc., used here only to identify the prize.

Beat the Bookis not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, any of their member clubs, any players' association, or any sportsbook or gaming operator. League, team, and player names are used only to identify the real-world events on which predictions are made. All third-party trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

Beat the Book is a free-to-play prediction competition. It is not a sportsbook, does not accept or place wagers, and does not offer any gambling service. Odds are displayed only to score predictions.

If any provision of these rules is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These rules are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, and disputes are subject to the courts of Ontario, except where your local law gives you a right to bring a claim elsewhere.
